Cathleen Keel, 59, was pronounced dead at the scene, Hancock County Coroner Jim Faulk said. Her death was caused by multiple head wounds, he said. Chief Mike DeNardo said Keel was headed south on Mississippi 603 near Avenue B about 7:30 a.m. when she apparently turned in front of the driver, who was also traveling south. The accident remains under investigation, but DeNardo does not expect charges to be filed against the driver. Keel’s former classmate Becky Rutledge said she answered a Facebook friend request from Keel just last week. Though close friends at Long Beach High School, the two only occasionally ran into each other in the years since. They saw each other most recently last year, Rutledge said. “I was so happy that she Facebooked me,” she said. She was shocked when she saw a message from a mutual friend about Keel’s death. “We never got a chance to get together,” she said. Rutledge said Keel had not changed through the years. She remembers her as a “true ‘70s flower child” who didn’t wear makeup and loved animals and the outdoors. “What you saw was what you got. She has always been a natural beauty,” she said. “She never had a bad word or an unkind thing to say about anybody. She was the same sweet Cathy.” Read more here: http://www.sunherald.com/2012/03/15/3821643/pass-cyclist-killed-in-bay-st.html#storylink=cpy
