Source: An arrest affidavit has been released in the fatal hit-and-run accident that occurred Tuesday in Cañon City. Cañon City Police Officers and the Combined Investigative Response Team arrested Natalie D. Habig, 35, of Cañon City, on suspicion of vehicular homicide and hit-and-run causing death, both felonies. She posted a $15,000 bond Thursday. The Cañon City Police Department said 49-year-old Kyle Keefe of Cañon City was identified Wednesday afternoon as the victim in the accident. He died late that night from his injuries, including a serious brain injury. He was not carrying identification at the time of the accident. According to the affidavit, investigators interviewed several witnesses who described a small, black pickup truck. One witness said the truck was “flying like hell” and that she saw a man and a bicycle “flying through the air.” Further investigation, including the use of a resident’s exterior security cameras, proved that the vehicle was a late 1990s or 2000 dark green or gray Toyota Tundra that had traveled south on Field Avenue, west on Leslie Lane, south on Cone Avenue and west on Elizabeth. The truck was determined to belong to Habig, who lives on Briarwood, just off of Elizabeth. During an interview with investigators prior to her arrest, Habig said she had been at a yard sale on Juniper on Tuesday when she received a call from a neighbor that her dogs were running loose. This upset her and proceeded to rush home, traveling at speeds around 50 miles per hour. She said she suffers from an anxiety disorder and had tunnel vision at the time of the accident. She never heard or felt the vehicle strike anything, she said. Habig will appear in court Wednesday for advisement on the charges.
